From what I've experienced, Capcom don't care much for tying up loose ends plot-wise. When catering for nostalgia, they tend to instead make referrances to elements/previous characters in the earlier games, and may sometimes intertwine them with parts of the new game, but I haven't personally seen a Capcom sequel where mysteries raised from a previous game were answered or elaborated.
